Siobhan is a Melbourne-based specialist general surgeon with an interest in liver, pancreas, biliary, gallbladder, and hernia surgery. She has expertise in managing advanced pancreatic cancer and using minimally-invasive and robotic surgery approaches - with a commitment to safe, evidence-based care.

Siobhan completed her medical degree in London along with a Bachelor of Medical Science in Cardiovascular Pharmacology. This was followed by extensive training in general surgery and hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery.

She holds dual Fellowships from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS), along with a PhD from Imperial College London, focusing on the molecular biology of bile duct cancer.

In the UK she was an Academic Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham and held the prestigious position of Associate Surgical Specialty Lead for Pancreatic Cancer for the Royal College of Surgeons, coordinating national pancreatic cancer research studies. She is an active research as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne, and hold a Diploma of Education for Health Professionals from the University of Birmingham.

Following her advanced HPB training at leading UK medical centres (Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Royal Stoke Hospital, and UHCW), Siobhan further honed her skills through international fellowships in Melbourne, and Sydney. These included time at Royal North Shore (Sydney), The Alfred (Melbourne), and Austin Health (Melbourne). During this period, she worked alongside some of the world's foremost specialists in liver, pancreas, and biliary surgery.

She also has an interest in complex abdominal wall incisional hernia surgery following a fellowship with Dr Rodney Jacobs, the President of the ANZ Hernia Society.

Siobhan completed Australia’s first formal Robotic HPB Surgery fellowship at Royal North Shore, Sydney under Professor Jas Samra and Professor Anubhav Mittal.

She is at the forefront of robotic education, leading the HPB Robotic Surgery Working Group at the International Medical Robotic Academy (IMRA) in Melbourne where she leads global training initiatives in robotic HPB surgery and regularly teaches robotic surgical skills.

Siobhan currently practices privately at Northern Private and La Trobe Private hospitals and holds public appointments at Northern Health, Eastern Health, Western Health, and St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.

An active academic and researcher, Dr. McKay has presented award-winning research at international conferences and continues to collaborate on improving outcomes in pancreatic and liver surgery. She is a passionate mentor and teacher, serving on the Academic Surgery Committee of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and leading training courses for future surgeons.

Dr. McKay’s approach combines cutting-edge technology, including minimally invasive and robotic surgery, with a patient-centred, multidisciplinary approach to care. Her practice is known for delivering high-quality, evidence-based outcomes for patients.
